The Global Pandemic has pushed us to reevaluate relations and how we bring communities together to celebrate achievements. ‘U for Change’ has been no different, and this year to celebrate the accomplishments of their graduates, they are holding a virtual graduation celebration, on June 1st, 2021, hosted by Devo Brown! They will also be holding a unique fundraiser, Fashion Runs Deep, to raise funds for their Core Arts program offered to over 30 young people every year, along with a series of industry partnerships leading to engaging workshops. As an organization, ‘U for Change’ has always been on a mission to equip youth all over the Greater Toronto Area with critical skills. It committedly works to provide them with the opportunities to nurture their creative passion under the guidance of some of the most talented art mentors. Being persistent in its motives, they even made it to the headlines and got notable press. To name a few would be The Globe and Mail, Equilibrium, Forward Fashion, and FlipSnack.
This event aims to gather the funds needed to create the next big group of creative changemakers and support their dreams. Along with honoring their graduates’ achievements, the evening will also ignite empowering conversations around resilience as some of the well-established creatives and mentors will impart their wisdom and challenges.
Isabella Baboury, who holds ten years of refined experience as Retail/Boutique Director will be the keynote speaker.
To keep the audience enthused throughout, industry professionals who have aced their careers will be joining the panel. On the panel will be seated:
Victoria Diplacido will be engaging with the panelists to share their stories and journeys. This interactive event, ‘U for Change’, wants to spread its vision of making every young person out there have the platform and tools needed to secure future opportunities.
Its effectiveness and influence from 2009 to March 2021 have been commendable. Having served 3010 youth with mentor support, 645 children completed the 8-month program, and about 1341 were provided with paid and volunteered opportunities. Not only this, but through its influence the organization has also helped the youth enroll into college, universities, and other programs with continuous industry mentorship to be fully aware of what they should be expecting in the future.
