Written by: HARANSH SAINI

Movies and TV shows have been one of the biggest gateways to fashion. Their inspirations usually come from much deeper sources like music, art and cultures of some or the other era. And just like that, they become the source of inspiration for not only designers but bloggers and  influencers too that soon reach the masses. We feel that once a movie or show touches you so deeply, you start resonating with that character and then half of the battle has already been won!

Iconic characters like Elle woods (Legally Blonde), Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears Prada), the entire clan of Sex and the City, and how can we forget everyone’s go to series that has passed the test of time – ‘Friends’. It’s these shows and movies we all look up to sometimes and feel the most fashionable versions of ourselves.

Below, we’re sharing our 6 best movies for when we want some fashion guidance.

CLUELESS

ICONIC CHARACTER – CHER (ALICIA SILVERSTONE)

While this movie has been such a tribute to the fashion world, the ‘plaid co-ord set’ in the movie is the IT outfit we look up to. It’s powerful, teeny and takes us back to our high school days.

LEGALLY BLONDE

ICONIC CHARACTER – ELLE WOODS (REESE WITHERSPOON)

It’s the glossy moments of pink that make this movie a true mood changer on gloomy days. Obsessing over pink, she owns every outfit she wears.  Alongside, she also gives us some inspiration on how to slay in ‘pink on pink’ ensembles.

MEAN GIRLS

ICONIC CHARACTERS – THE PLASTICS CLUB (MAJORLY REGINA GEORGE)

With mean girls, it’s self-explanatory. In short Mean Girls = Y2K fashion. The miniskirts, pink pumps, tank tops, cute tiny shoulder bags or the velour tracksuits. It has everything to bring back Y2K in the present times.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA

ICONIC CHARACTER – MIRANDA PRIESTLY (MERYL STREEP)

In Devil Wears Prada, it’s all about Miranda Priestly, period. It’s a character that is undeniably strong, blunt, and powerful. She knows her way out and her clothes speak louder than anything! The bold and luxe pieces always supported by an elegant handbag, give us some major ‘boss lady who knows it all’ vibes. We thank her character for teaching us how important timeless pieces like coats and blazers or small detailings like scarves or belts can be.

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’s

ICONIC CHARACTER – HOLLY GOLIGHTLY (AUDREY HEPBURN)

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a Parisian romance. What makes the film iconic is ofcourse Audrey Hepburn and her regal personality. She made the ‘little black dress’ a super hit with her luxe charisma, pearl accents and larger than life hair. She is truly an icon!

SEX AND THE CITY

ICONIC CHARACTERS –   CARRIE BRADSHAW (SARAH JESSICA PARKER), SAMANTHA JONES (KIM CATTRALL), CHARLOTTE YORK (KRISTIN DAVIS), MIRANDA HOBBES (CYNTHIA NIXON)

This series is a whole vibe by itself. Each of these 4 characters speak fashion at every step in their own ways. These charming ladies have been the trendsetters for most of us.

Carrie being alluring in her own way, Miranda in her normcore looks, Charlotte’s preppy yet dashing style and Samantha in her ever so sexy ensembles.
