t’s hard to believe we’ve reached this point in the year but alas Valentine’s day is next week which will mark the halfway point of February. Now whether your single, in a relationship or crushing over someone I think it’s always important during this day, in particular, to remind yourself how wonderful you are and perhaps even treat yourself with a little something. On a day like Valentine’s day it’s not surprising that state of the environment might not be on your mind however I want to create Valentine’s day gift guide focusing on brands that are at forefront of sustainability, the items that I’ve chosen are all at varying price points so there should be something for everyone!
The first product I want to talk about is from a brand called J. Hannah, based in downtown LA J. Hannah is actually a jewellery brand. Their pieces are handmade and are made up of 100% post-consumer recycled gold or silver and the gems are either recycled or ethically sourced. While their jewelry is stunning, I’m not actually featuring the brands jewelry partially because the prices tend to be quite shocking. What I am featuring is the line of nail polish they created, the polishes are 8 free which just means they aren’t formulated with the harsh ingredients typically found in nail polishes. They offer a set of three of their polishes and you can choose any combination of their 16 shades you like. The set of three is $69 which seems steep but your paying for the quality of the nail polish, it’s a lot less damaging to your nails plus these are some seriously unique colours they even show the inspiration for each colour. This gift is a perfect mix of luxury while also being pretty practical in the long run.
The next piece is actually jewellery this time and from Canadian brand Mejuri. An internet fave for their extremely reasonable pricing Mejuri’s mission statement is that fine jewelry should be accessible, women can actually buy and enjoy the jewelry rather than waiting to be gifted something or saving for ages. Mejuri’s products are handmade with ethically sourced materials as well a being made by jewellers committed to ethical practices. This particular pair of earrings are the Oversized Organic Pearl Earrings adorned with 4 large freshwater pearls, these earrings are the perfect piece to elevate an everyday outfit or for a more formal affair. Priced at $75 it’s hard to deny that these beauties are well worth the splurge.
The third item on my list is a pretty classic valentines day choice, a bottle of perfume rose-scented of course. The brand is called Le Labo based in New York the brand offers refills on every bottle of perfume take the bottle to get cleaned a refilled for 20% off the original price of the perfume, the price of the perfume varies between $98-$1210 depending on the size. With its minimal packaging and amazing new sustainable way of purchasing perfume it’s no surprise why this brand has been showing up on everyone’s insta feed. Try the scent Rose 31 for an extra valentine’s day feel.
Last but not least we have a bit of a show stopper from the LA cool girl brand itself Reformation I chose the Astrid Dress, a sleek floral slip dress. Reformation is one of the most popular sustainable clothing brands out there, they specialize in sweet summer dresses and you’ve probably seen your favourite influencer rocking one of their looks on Instagram. This dress is slightly more on the summery side but throw a coat on and you could even wear it out on valentine’s day. Priced at $228 this dress is made out of a lightweight crepe fabric, for every garment sold on the website they give a detailed description of what the fabric is made of and how it’s sustainable.
I hope this valentine’s day edition of Sustainable Sunday has helped inspire you to consider gifting yourself or someone else something from a brand striving to make their business practices more ethical and sustainable. Thank you for reading this week’s article on Sustainable Sunday and whether you’re spending your valentines’ with loved ones, friends, or alone I wish you a beautiful day full of love!
