SLIP SILHOUETTES IN FASHION

Written By: Tarnjot Kaur

Well, this is a sweet truth that fashion is forever. People are not going to stop chasing clothes, footwear, and accessories to look classy all the time. If we take the 90s in fashion, we may think about baggy denim, polka dots & slips as well. So, here the focus is sleek slip dresses, where counting on the glamor of 90’s slip dresses is going to be the most favorable stuff for fashion mongers. The slip was worn by many well-known fashion models such as Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Princess Diana. These dresses were eventually used as innerwear to support the outer garment and to protect one’s body.

HOW DID THE SLIP BECOME A TREND?

The slip has been around for centuries. The silhouette of the slip dress used to be simple, it is cut on the bias and by using minimal fabric. The turning point of the slip from underwear to outerwear came during the final decade of the 20th century. The slip came into fashion when Kate Moss wore a sheer maxi slip dress to a party in 1993 as a teenager. It was not just celebrities who started wearing lip dresses in the 90s. Princess Diana wore a slip dress to the reception in the designer’s honor. Every person that has worn the slip, looks glamorous, sexy, and even grungy.

COMFORT…. IN SLIP DRESS!

If we talk about the comfort in slip, it is at its peak as it is lightweight and breezy. It can be a perfect date or night-out dress if it is in silk, satin, or velvet. It is easy to style as the wearer can wear it with a pair of pumps if the dress is in print. If it is in solid color flats can be worn with a nice contrast blazer. Slips are way more comfortable for summers or if you are planning to go out at the beach, especially in neutral colors, while shopping for a slip dress. Choosing something vintage from the 90s and taking some inspiration from today’s fashion would work great.
