SKINCARE MYTHS DEBUNKED

By: Muskan Shah

Every day you must hear people tell you; do this, or do that to your skin,  it’ll make your skin better. Sometimes these “random suggestions” can be far from true.

So we took the liberty to debunk some Skincare myths so that you don’t have to!

  1. 1.WATER HYDRATES YOUR SKIN

Have you ever heard from your mom “water is good for your skin”. Well, that’s neither here nor there. While it is true that drinking water will keep your body hydrated and has health benefits. It’s completely false that water will hydrate your skin. Only drinking loads of water all day won’t make your skin perfect.

The best way to hydrate your skin is using a good moisturizer daily.

2.YOU ONLY NEED SUNSCREEN IN THE SUMMER

While it is true that sunscreen should be of utmost importance in the summer, it is also true that you need sunscreen throughout the year.

Sunscreen helps you protect your skin against harmful UV rays, which by the way are present regardless of the season.

Sunscreen should be your number one priority when it comes to Skincare because UV rays do a lot more damage than you may realize.

So stop ditching it everytime summer ends!

  1. 3.MAKEUP MAKES YOU AGE FASTER

If you’re afraid to wear makeup daily because you think it’ll make you age faster, we have good news for you.

Makeup can only cause aging when you leave it on before going to bed.

The dirt and toxins your skin is exposed to everyday is what would make you age faster.

So always remember to have a night routine and never go to sleep with makeup on.

You don’t need an extensive 12 step routine. You only need a gentle cleanser and a good moisturizer and you’re good to go!

4.OILY SKIN DOESN’T NEED MOISTURIZING

If you haven’t realized, let’s repeat it again. Moisturizing is important for your skin! Regardless of your skin type. If you have oily skin, all the natural oils get stripped when you cleanse your face, so the protective layer needs to be replaced.

The best way to avoid excess products when it comes to oily skin, is to use an oil cleanser. It will restore balance to your skin and also keep your skin’s pH intact.

5.HOT WATER IS GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN

As refreshing as it might be, hot water is not the greatest option when washing your face. Hot water strips all oils and natural oils from your skin and leaves your skin dry, flakey and itchy.

It is absolutely divine taking a hot shower after a long day but when it comes to washing your face, use lukewarm or cold water.

6.TOOTHPASTE CAN GET RID OF PIMPLES

We know that everyone has tried to kill a zit with toothpaste once in their life. While it may seem like it could work, it really doesn’t.

Toothpaste can in fact cause more problems like irritation and inflammation because of all the ingredients in it.

Stop trying home remedies and get yourself a pimple patch or cream!

There you have it. Tell us in the comments which of these myths you thought were true!
