As I look for things to fill my days with, one thing remains and that’s music. I’m pretty proud of the musical library I’ve collected over the years, and I can thank my parents for that. I grew up listening to Motown, Hip-Hop, R&B, The Beatles…. and ABBA. What genre does ABBA even fall into? They are their own genre. This mental library of music has followed me into adulthood with new songs and genres being added to it throughout the years. However, R&B has my heart and you can probably catch me listening to it on any day of the week – both new AND old school. If you’re like me and need music to get you through the day, then I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy this post! These are my top 3 playlists/mixes atm and you should give them a listen if you’re into Hip Hop and R&B. I’ve also included the links and handles to everyone I mention’s IG account just in case you want to check them out. ENJOY!
DJ BIG JACKS
Have you ever stepped into Aritzia and found yourself vibing to the music more than you were shopping for clothes? I definitely have. So I took it upon myself to ask an employee what playlist they were playing and that’s when I discovered DJ Big Jacks – a local Toronto DJ who can be found playing the hottest bops at some of the trendiest places in the city. I’ve been to a few of his parties, and just believe me when I say they’re LIT. This one was posted on his SoundCloud and is part of his series called “Assorted Snacks”. It was posted only a couple of weeks ago but is filled with some great old school tracks. Press PLAY if you’re ready for the heat!
YUKNODIS x OREYA
I just want to start off by introducing what Oreya Studio actually is because I feel like every young, hip, trendy, COOL girl should know about this salon. It’s basically an all-in-one beauty salon. They do hair (cut & colour), lash lifts & extensions, skincare, and from time to time Naked Beauty Bar stops by to do a nail pop-up. From the aesthetic of the interior to the lovely artists that work there, your experience is guaranteed to be a good one. I call them artists because everything they touch turns into a master piece. They’ve been open for less than a year and have already made a name for themselves in the Toronto Instagram World. When I say they give you the full experience, they really do THE MOST from the moment you walk into the moment you step out the door. While waiting for your artist they give you an option to wait with a beer, wine, or plain old’ water, and after your appointment they chat and walk with you to the front desk until you walk out.
As I laid in the bed getting my lashes done I couldn’t help but notice the fire playlist playing throughout the studio, and thank the Lord I follow them on Instagram because they were nice enough to post the exact playlist on Soundcloud for all of us to listen to. This mix was made by @yuknodis (owner of Oreya’s bestie) and is made for the ultimate ’90’s R&B lover with a lil bit of new school to keep it spicy. Their Spotify has even more playlists (11 to be exact) to serve your music needs.

Oreya Owner: @lex_brit (SHE’S SO PRETTY)
Last but not least I’ve chosen another female DJ from LA! Her name is SOSUPERSAM and not only is she gorgeous, but she has amazing taste in music. She hosts a monthly party in LA called “143” and for those of you who are too young to remember what that number stands for, it was the MSN and Myspace way of saying “I Love You” back in the early 2000’s. She’s known for playing the greatest 90’s and 00’s jams at her events and it looks like so much fun. Even if you weren’t alive for those eras, I’m sure you’ll recognize some of these bangers. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to paste the playlist directly into this post, but if you click on her pic it’ll open up a new window to the Spotify playlist I want to share! You won’t be disappointed, I swear.

I hope you enjoy listening to these playlists as much as I enjoyed writing this post! If you know of any other good DJ’s or playlists/mixes, feel free to leave a comment and send some links to their work!
