As we near the weekend the time has come for our Fashion Friday segment. In this segment I’ll be giving tips and tricks about thrifting and sustainable shopping, specifically how to recreate the looks featured in our Fashion Friday segment on Instagram with sustainable options.
This week we’re featuring Fashion Arts and Business student Michal, he is influenced by hip-hop artist and was inspired by bones the rapper for this particular fit. For his Fashion Friday feature Michal wore an oversized thrifted graphic black tee-shirt, a pair of distressed black skinny jeans from Winners, a black bag from Mountain Equipment Co, and a pair of chunky white sneakers from winners. His outfit has an edgy feel to it which is reminiscent of many popular hip-hop artists, a trend in hip-hop recently has been a gothic or punk influence and Michal shows how fans of the genre can take inspiration from their favorite artists and translate it into their own outfits.
For my sustainable recommendations we’ll start with the shirt, to keep a similar look to Michal fit I would recommend going with a vintage tee-shirt, some great vintage places in Toronto are Black Market Vintage, Public Butter and even your own local Value Village. Just spend an hour searching through the racks and you won’t have a problem finding something that reflects your own style but also emulates Michal look.
For the pants I would recommend either The Skinny Fit Jean from the sustainable brand Everlane or the Skinny Lin jeans in black from Nudie Jeans, a sustainable company that specializes in jeans and has plans to become the most sustainable denim brand. Another option all together is doing a DIY and distressing your own denim because it’s likely many of us have a pair of black skinnies’ in our wardrobe already.
Last but not least my recommendation for the shoes is from the sneaker brand Tread by Everlane. The sneakers have that chunky look that’s trending right now. The shoe is quite simply called The Trainer and in the colour off-white it’s pretty similar to Michal choice of footwear.
Michal’s outfit brings the style and influence of hip-hop culture together with a casual vibe that works perfectly for any occasion. I love that he managed to add a vintage piece to his look it just adds to the overall grungy vibe and of course vintage is always the most sustainable option. Thanks for reading Happy Holidays to all, hopefully you found some inspiration from this look and I challenge you all to give thrifting or shopping sustainably a try, perhaps even for your holiday gift shopping!
