Don’t make waste. Wear it. Five simple words yet few could be more effective to describe this brand, taken from the activewear brands own Instagram bio this phrase is more or less Girlfriend Collective’s mission statement. Girlfriend Collective is an ethical and sustainable brand that specializes in activewear, this brand is one of the top and possibly one of the few sustainable activewear brands out there. Girlfriend Collective curates functional yet sleek silhouettes plus a colour palette that incorporates classics with trend colours. Now if you’re like me and you’re not particularly into going to the gym this brand might not be of interest to you however even if you consider walking up a flight of stairs your daily exercise (guilty), these sets are so beautiful you’ll probably end up wanting to do everything in them even if working out isn’t one of those activities.

Now this brand boats an impressive list of accomplishments which can be read in detail at girlfriend.com but I figured I’d give you the highlights of those accomplishments. Each pair of Girlfriend Collective leggings is actually made from 25 recycled plastic water bottles, and their sports bras are made from 11. All the packaging they use is 100% recycled and recyclable. To show they’ve put their money where their mouths are, you can view their various certifications covering ethical and sustainable aspects on their website. Make sure you check out their website to read even further into their amazing initiatives.

This brand has quickly become an internet favourite especially for those who tend to consume more consciously. A brand that combines eco-friendly practices, with a fashionable sense of style, all for an active customer is pretty genius. Girlfriend Collective clearly knows their customer well, they know how she does her makeup, where she eats lunch, what her favourite pair of earrings is, one look at their Instagram will tell you exactly who she is. That being said they offer a large enough variety of colours and styles that each customer can still feel like an individual, two friends could be wearing Girlfriend Collective next to each other and no one would ever even be the wiser.

To many people, the thought of wearing garbage is not entirely appealing but as the fashion industry begins to explore more sustainable manufacturing ideas it may become more common especially when you consider the fact that humans have created so much waste that’s just sitting somewhere killing the earth. Girlfriend Collectives method is utilizing the trash that’s already been made and turning it into cute workout clothes that will actually serve a purpose. The thought of turning something so destructive into something so useful is beautiful and I commend Girlfriend Collective in their incredible efforts.
