Once again, it’s that time of the week it’s Fashion Friday! In this segment I’ll be giving tips and tricks about thrifting and sustainable shopping, specifically how to recreate the looks featured in our Fashion Friday segment on Instagram with sustainable options.
This week we are featuring teacher Kate Maria St Louis, for a long day of teaching she tends to value comfort over style however for any student taught by Kate we all know she always shows up to class looking sophisticated and put together. Her favourite places to shop are Zara and Vsp Consignment, a modern Toronto consignment store that specializes in luxury pieces. The outfit Kate is wearing consists of a midi length black, white, and red floral printed dress from Zara, a black blazer from Zara, and a pair of black combat boots from Massimo Dutti. Her look blends masculine pieces like the oversized blazer and the combat boots with the feminine floral dress.
Now to recreate this look sustainably we really only need three key items dress, blazer, and boots. To start for the dress, I found an adorable polka dot print midi dress from People Tree, a sustainable brand based in London and Tokyo. The dress is called The Madison Dot Dress and has a very similar silhouette to Kate’s dress. Next from one of my favourite sustainable brands Everlane, I found The Oversized Blazer it comes in several colours including a classic black. The blazer echoes that of menswear and is the perfect outerwear to contrast the feminine silhouette of the dress. For the combat boots I found shoe brand Matisse, they focus on ethical factories as well as reusing material where possible and sustainable sourcing of materials. The boots are called The No Fly boots, they give that slightly punk look and work perfectly to make the look more casual.
Kate’s look is the perfect mix of comfort and style, which is something that most of us strive to recreate in our own lives. This look would also be perfect to wear during the day at school or work and to an event in the evening with a pair of heels, especially with the holiday season coming up we can all find inspiration from Kate’s mix of the masculine and feminine.
