Beauty and Skin Tips – Prep Your Skin For the Beach

Written by: Jade Florendo

Summer is finally at its peak! After months of isolation indoors, many of us can’t wait to get outside and enjoy the warmth of the sun. From tanning at the beaches to taking long swims in backyard pools, there are many outdoor activities to partake in. However, with all that fun, there is a potential for damaged skin and hair if we’re overexposed to UVA rays.

Fortunately, there are many beauty and skincare products that can help protect you from the harmful rays of the sun and harmful chemicals that can damage your skin and hair.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is super important for the summer. It protects your skin from harmful UV rays and helps maintain an even skin tone – it helps prevent sunburn, discolorations, dark spots, dry skin and premature aging. Dermatologists recommend sunscreen products that are SPF 30 or higher, it also helps if the sunscreen is water-resistant so it wouldn’t wash away after a soak in the water.

Sun Cream for your hair

The sun can not only damage your skin but also your hair. Damaged hair from the sun can become dry, brittle, frizzy and can cause discoloration. Nobody wants damaged hair, so it’s important to also protect your locks. Get a sun hair cream that is infused with antioxidants and plant-derived oil. This will be an added protection for your hair, and scalp.

Lightweight Foundation

During the heat, the combination of sweat and heavy foundations guarantees breakouts, and excessive oiliness. Opt for tinted moisturizers or BB creams, the formula of these products are lighter on your skin, and therefore prevents the chance of clogged pores that can result in unwanted breakouts.

Blush Stains and Lip Tints

If you want natural and long-lasting makeup, ditch lipstick and powdered blush. Blush stains are the best in the summer as the formula stays on your skin for longer, even with a little dip in the water. Lip tints also give you that healthy and natural colour for your lips, and they won’t smear compared to other lip products.

Wear Waterproof Makeup

If you like wearing full-face makeup on the beach, wear waterproof makeup. There is a waterproof foundation that is formulated to prevent oiliness on the skin. Waterproof mascaras are also a must to avoid the dreaded raccoon eyes.
